Our Charity Mission

To promote Thai Arts & Culture & Restore Tourism Confidence in Thailand

Southern Breeze is a charity mission which was set up in 2005 in order to help Southern Thailand recover from the Asian Tsunami crisis (Dec 2004). Southern Breeze toured Europe in 2005, sponsored by Thai Airways, promoting Thai culture and helping to restore tourism confidence in Southern Thailand. For the villagers of the Thai Andaman coast, the Tsunami was the first disaster but the second disaster was the loss of tourism so vital to their incomes.

Southern Breeze set out to address this problem and at every event in Europe, team members would hand out brochures ensuring tourists that Thailand was safe and back to normal and encouraging them to visit Thailand again soon. Indeed Southern Breeze were credited with much success in their mission to encourage tourists to visit Thailand again after the Asian Tsunami disaster.

Since then they have toured Europe and other countries for charity to promote Thai culture and tourism and support events celebrating the 60th Anniversary of HM King of Thailand’s Accession to the Throne.

The group was named Southern Breeze as they likened their mission to a cooling breeze blowing from the Northern Thailand to the South to bring relief and soothing from the suffering caused to Southern Thais by the Tsunami. This same imagery is seen in one of Southern Breeze’s popular dances, the Talikipas or Fan Dance from Southern Thailand in which the fluttering of the fans signifies blowing away bad luck and drawing in freshness.
